Functional Reflex Therapy.
What is Functional Reflex Therapy?
Functional Reflex Therapy is a reflexology framework developed by Lorraine Senior designed to help both adults and children of all ages with Autistic Spectrum Disorders & Complex Needs, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, High Levels of Anxiety and Stress, Mental Health Conditions, Alzheimers and Dementia.
This is a lovely nurturing treatment for those receiving it and encourages relaxation and connection with the aim of improving mood, alleviateing stress and anxiety. As part of the treatments unscented balms are used.
How does it work?
The therapy works using reflexology pressure points on the feet, lower legs, hands and forearms that relate to parts of the body.
It has been proven scientifically that the nervous system and endocrine system are affected by long term stress, anxiety, tension and anger and also the receptiveness to learning situations.
Everyone can experience stress and anxiety but they can also manifest particularly in many people with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders and complex needs.
Through positive touch and sensory stimuli we try and encourage the pituitary gland to release natural oxytocin in the blood stream and other 'happy' chemicals which scientists have suggested can reduce the sense of anxiety and increase a sense of calm.
How can Function Reflex Therapy be delivered?
1. Through one to one Reflexology sessions using the Functional Reflex Framework.
This is where I will provide the treatments within the comfort of your home. I will carry out the Functional Reflex therapy Rainbow Relaxation routine and can also add elements as part of the routine for problems such as constipation. This is can be carried out either on the foot or the hands.
These cost £35.00 a session. There are discounts for block bookings.
Schools and other services may contact me to deliver packages within school or other services.
2. Through Functional Reflex Therapy Rainbow Relaxation workshops.
These are workshops to train parents and carers in the Rainbow Relaxation routine to use with their own family. This is a short flowing repetitive routine which draws on the original practices of reflexology.
This is a fun practical workshop which takes place over two mornings a week apart where you will learn a hand routine one week and a foot routine the next week. You will be asked to practice the routine on each other.
You will be encouraged to think about the movement and what part of the body it relates to an each movement responds to a colour making it easy to remember. This routine can be calming to give aswell as receive.
You will be provided with the necessary handouts to give you the confidence to be able to use the routine with family members at home. You will also be given a basic toolkit that you can add to and adapt for your own family member so you have everything you will need to get started at home! The toolkit acts as an object of reference to help prepare the receiver, by communicating what is going to happen next.
This routine can only be taught be a qualified reflexologist who has had extra training in the Functional Reflex Therapy Routine. The course does not qualify you as a reflexologist nor a Functional Reflex Therapist. It also does not qualify you to use it as part of your own business and I will require you to sign a learner agreement to say you understand this. What it does do is teach you the life skills to be able to carry out the Functional Reflex Therapy Rainbow Relaxation routine with family members using reflexology points.
The cost of the course is £75.00 per person.
An example of a toolkit you will be provided with. Contents of the bags may change.
